CHPC PE DOWNTIME: Partial Protected Environment Downtime  -- Oct 24-25, 2023

Date Published: October 18, 2023

The following was sent via email to the PE users (chpc-hipaa-users@lists.utah.edu) on September 27th, 20203:

Partial Protected Environment Downtime -- Oct 24-25, 2023 -- Starting Oct 24 at 8 am

This downtime will be to start the move of the protected environment from its current location in machine room 1 (Enterprise space) of the DDC to machine room 2 (Research Computing space).

During this outage we will be moving the prismatic2 Virtual Machine (VM) farm, mammoth3 and 4 storage systems, the UPDB VM farm as well as several of the elm nodes.

Impact to users prior/post downtime:

In preparation for the downtime, all of the VMs currently on the Prismatic2 VM hardware need to be moved to the Prismatic1 VM farm, which is not being moved in this downtime, so the VMs will be available during the downtime. CHPC staff will do this at the individual VM level, coordinating with the owner as there will be a short outage associated with this move. The move of individual VMs will take place during the week leading up to the downtime.

After the downtime, the VMs that were migrated off Prismatic2 will be migrated back, again working with owners of the individual VMs to set a time, as there will be a second short outage tied to this move.

Impact to users during downtime:

Group spaces on mammoth3 and 4 will be unavailable during this downtime.  Here is a list of the project spaces that will be unavailable.
