CHPC ANNOUNCEMENT: Change in Lonepeak Access

Posted: March 31st, 2020

As mentioned in the Fall 2019 CHPC newsletter, https://www.chpc.utah.edu/news/fall2019_newsletter.pdf,  the nodes recently added to lonepeak were donated by two sources, the University Hospital and Cancer Computer.  One requirement of the Cancer Computer donation was that priority be given to "cancer related research".

In order to accomplish this, we have created a new slurm "quality of service (qos)", lonepeak-high, that gives jobs a higher base priority.  For ease in the decision process, the determination of who is given access to this higher priority qos is based on the PI's department level, with users whose CHPC PI are in the attached list of departments being given access.

The quickest way to determine if you have access to this new qos is to run

sacctmgr -p show assoc user=YourUNID

and look at the qos listed for the lonepeak cluster with your group account; if lonepeak-high is listed, you have access.

To make use of this higher priority qos add the line below to your batch script:

#SBATCH --qos lonepeak-high

Jobs from groups that do not have access to this higher priority can still run jobs, without preemption, on lonepeak. There is no change needed for these users.

As always, please report any issues via helpdesk@chpc.utah.edu
