CHPC INFORMATION: Changes in Arbiter Implementation

Date Posted: March 24th, 2021

CHPC will be deploying an updated version of Arbiter this afternoon.

In the currently running version, the usage of  a given user on each of the nodes is tracked independently, such that being in penalty on one node does not impact the status of that user on any of the other of the nodes.

In the new implementation, the nodes being monitored by Arbiter are grouped as follows:

  1. general environment cluster general interactive nodes - currently notchpeak{1,2}, kingspeak{1,2},  lonepeak{1,2}, ash{5,6}, and tangent{1,2}
  2. frisco nodes - currently frisco{1-8}
  3. protected environment cluster general interactive nodes - currently redwood{1,2}

When usage on any one of the nodes in the group exceeds the usage limits, the user will be put into penalty not only on that node, but on all nodes in the group to which the node belongs. As the usage on a node returns to a state where the user is no longer in penalty, the status of the user on all nodes in the group is also updated.

As always, if you have any questions or issues please send them to CHPC via helpdesk@chpc.utah.edu
