In this talk we will go over several types of file servers that are used at the CHPC and then talk about efficient ways to read and write to these. We will start with plain text and binary I/O, followed by I/O libraries such as NetCDF or HDF, and then discuss compression of binary files for both faster performance and smaller file size. We will conclude with overview of parallel I/O utilizing the Message Passing Interface (MPI).
